advice on esa quitting work

hi just want some advice ive been off sick for 4 weeks now

i cant get sickness pay anymore but been told go for ssp now i do not know how to do this
im not sure whether to quit work due to ill health but i don't want be sanctioned

im still going through tests to see whats wrong with me possibly a autoimmune illness looking at lupus
i only work on tills but im constantly in pain

See this link, it will tell you how to claim SSP. This is payable for 28 weeks. After this you'll be able to claim ESA. https://www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay

It's the responsibility of the employer to pay SSP if you qualify for it. You shouldn't have to do anything. Have a look at the link provided by poppy12345 to confirm that you qualify for SSP. If you don't, your employer has to give you a form SSP1 explaining why you don't qualify. If you don't qualify you can make a claim ESA/UC immediately.
Without more knowledge of your personal situation it's not possible to give any more detailed advice.

You can claim ESA/UC for sickness, but you will be assessed and could fail the assessment after 3 - 4 months... then you can appeal or claim looking for work benefit... If you have voluntarily left your employment and failed ESA assessment it could become a problem... best to let your employer decide they want to let you go.
