Squirrel..........

Options
I've never eaten squirrel but................

I want to make the Peking Squirrel as made on the Wild Gourmets program on channel 4 this week. Anyone see it?

I need the ingredient list for the chinese five spice for cooking the squirrel, a plum sauce recipe and a chinese pancake recipe.

Not too much to ask for. :o

    Hi Rikki,

I didn't see the programme and I'm not sure I fancy eating squirrel myself but this thread might help.

    Chinese pancakes

I had a quick look on google and these recipes might help:

plum sauce and chinese five spice powder

I definitely don't fancy eating them after looking at these pics but it seems that they are becoming more popular on menus.

OH shoots game during the shooting season and can get hold of most types of game, he also looks after a large house and regularly kills squirrels, pigeons etc

Just thought we'd like to try it after seeing the channel 4 program.

Tree rats! I used to regularly trap and relocate "ours", using a standard vermin trap, with a spring-loaded door at one end. (You can get extra long ones specially designed for squirrels, but I never had a case of their tails getting caught in the door.) The bait of choice amongst professional squirrel trappers is evidently Snickers.

I was looking for a supplier of snails and found a place where you can order Python, Camel, Zebra, Worm Crisps (BBQ flavour), Thai Green Curry Crickets. (Python is BLOODY expensive!) but I must admit I wouldn't try squirrel. We have one in our garden which begs for food every morning and he's too cute!

It's a good time of year to eat squirrel - at least round our way. They are so busy picking up the acorns and other things that they get hit by cars.

So, there are quite a few 'roadkill' squirrels available - nice and fresh!

I do wonder how much meat there would be on one! It would be necessary to freeze them until there is one each.

Warning - do be carefull when picking them up off the road to look both ways. :rotfl:
