Best way to sell a car relatively quickly?

So I've just accepted a job offer in which I will not longer require a car.

I'm currently halfway through a PCP on an Audi A1. I've contacted audi finance and they've said...
£3.2k + additional fees (like mileage etc.) to cancel early.

or £12.2k to just buy the car outright.

A quick valuation of the car on webuyanycar.com has put it at £10.7k. So obviously the most sensible thing to do is buy the car outright, and sell it.

I've got family helping me front the cost of the car, and I'll cover any loss thats made (as it'll be less than 3k anyway).

What is the best way to go about selling the car privately? I've looked on autotrader and there are very few Audi A1's with similar mileage, year etc. so I have a feeling it'll be pain to sell.

I've read into webuyanycar or tootle, whats the general consensus on the best way to sell it? Obviously the best way would be to sell it would be privately, but I don't think I want to wait for a month.

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

When you take it in, Webuyanycar will find 'faults' that will reduce the value they quote online by 10% to 20% in my experience.

They'll also hang onto the money for several days, unless you pay to get instant funds transfer to the account.

On the other hand. you avoid peeps traipsing to your house, wanting test drives then going away to 'think about it'

Webuyanycar just auctions the vehicles, so you could try putting the car into a local auction yourself - https://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/Sell/

TBH I think it'll be a challenge so sell privately, most peeps dropping £10k on a motor want the (perhaps illusionary) reassurance of buying from a dealer.

How much will it cost to keep the car on?
  • Why will you no longer require a car? Are you being offered a company car? If so, see if you can get allowance payment instead and carry on using your own car.

Or if you no longer require a car because you will be using public transport to work, then just keep the car for weekends at least until it becomes affordable for you to hand it back. :)

Or you can just be honest about the condition of your car :money:

Get an online quote from webuyanycar, just to get a starting point, then contact Evans Halshaw, who will also buy any car and guarantee to beat their price.

I sell cars and if I'm offered a part exchange which I don't really fancy, that's what I advise the owners to do and they always get a good deal.

The last one actually got a price of Evans Halshaw that they were happy with, but then went to a local dealer and managed to sell it to them for a little bit more still.
  • Overall I just don't need a car. I'll be moving to zone 2-3 london, where insurance of my car will double - so it's bit of a stupid decision to keep it; especially when I won't need it.

It's in good condition, only 12k miles - there is a minor dent in the back, which I was quoted £250 to be fixed by a garage when it originally happened - so I plan to buy the car from audi, get the dent fixed; then sell.

So I'm guessing "relatively quickly" doesn't necessarily mean "within the next few days". Personally I'd be trying to sell it at somewhere near its private sale value first for a week or two rather than what the WBAC quote was. Stick it on Ebay and Autotrader in line with what they're going for on Ebay (actual sold price, not listing), post it on your local Facebook "Cars for sale in and around xxxx" and "Stuff for sale or free in XXX" pages. Give it a couple of weeks and if it still hasn't sold then look at other options.

OP, if you can't sell it private, have a word with any local indi car sales places - they won't give you as much as selling it privately, but you are more likely to get rid of it quickly if they want it. If they don't want it, you've lost nothing by asking. If they gave you £10k and sold it on for £11k, they've made a bit and you've saved a bit. If they've got their own repair shop, they'd probably repair the dent themselves.
