Has anybody every managed to give up one drink like say wine because it doesn't agree with them but continued to drink beer? Or would there be a risk of just using beer as a substitute. I'm not trying to find excuses to not stick to my targets but if there was a way I could have a social drink and not lose all control I would.
Welcome to the list Glenda! I have switched from wine to lager or vodka and slimline tonics as I don’t like them as much and wanted to stay in control at a work event. Plus was trying to slim and found spirit plus diet mixer easier to count. It kind of worked as I didn’t drink too much although from the outside the big question is why drink something you don’t like much, why not just have no booze at all.
Anyway I don’t claim all the answers, still on 8 here although I was hoping to get to twelve by yesterday I haven’t done it.0 -

I am now on 60 days in a row AF and it does get easier with time
Belle, from Tired of Thinking About Drinking says that when people sign up to her 100 Day Challenge it's when they hit Day 60 that she's pretty confident they'll make it.pollyanna24 wrote: »I don't think I am doing myself any favours and really should give it up at the weekends too, but not sure I am ready for that as I really look forward to wine on a Friday.
But I think it is just fuelling my cravings. Both my dad and brother have given up (my dad longer than my bro) and although I haven't confessed to a full on drink problem, they are aware I am trying to keep it under control.
One said that the cravings go after two months, and the other said after three, so by me drinking at the weekend, I'm not ever giving myself the change for the cravings to go (if that makes sense).
I'm ambivalent about this, Pollyanna. If someone isn't committed to stopping drinking altogether having a shot at it and not succeeding doesn't help. None of us like the feeling that we haven't achieved our targets - and that's in life, not just on this thread.
The information about cravings is true - I found after 60 days it wasn't as tough as in the beginning, and the cravings do stop the longer you stay off booze. After 90 days it was easier, after 180 easier still and so on.
The trick is to find a way of dealing with booze that works for you.
I did a huge amount of reading around the subject while I was going cold turkey so to speak, and the information that I gathered while doing that made my resolve far, far stronger than if I'd relied on my own strength of character - I haven't got much, but I can talk myself into almost anything with the right information.
In the long run it is easier to be totally alcohol-free than stopping and starting, but the early days when you stop altogether are a challenge and you need to arm yourself with the tools necessary when you take it on.
22/31 please, Baileys.Better is good enough.0 -

Hi Pollyanna24 and welcome back
I've added you to the list and put you as target free but let me know if you want to change that
Itisme well done on beating your target:j:j :j0 -
Thanks Baileys. I'm up to 8 now. And most likely will make that to 9 as I'm on 5:2 and fasting today.
I guess if I'm sticking to my no drinking during the week, I should make a target of 13 , which although isn't great, as the years go on, I am having more and more AF days, so yay!
2015 - 49 (think this is what made me realise I needed to do something)
2016 - 120
2017 - 150
So aiming to beat that this year. I thinking I'm aiming for 50%, so that 182.5, hmm, guess it will have to be 183.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
Mortgages (End 2017) - £180,235.03
(End 2021) - £131,215.25 DID IT!!!
(End 2022) - Target £116,213.810 -
:rotfl::rotfl: pollyanna maybe we should add 1/2 days as an option for the target.
I have put you down for 9 for today0
