Day 9 for me please Baileys just made a £50 payment to DDs school trip in October, I figured that 9 days without alcohol and buying unnecessary things from the shop probably amounts to £50  am aiming to make another payment before the end of the month with the money I’ve saved, it’s definitely an added incentive to stay AF :)

[Deleted User], I've often wondered how much I've saved not buying so much alcohol the past year or so, it's definitely in the high hundreds.

Well I have just had a quick glance through my records and have worked out that I have spent £144.12 on alcohol since the start of 2016, or £57.64 per year over two and a half years (this does not include going out with friends, it's home consumption only). In 2015 I spent £546.81 (not sure my records for that year are complete) but before that I reckon I would have spent at least £1,152 per year on wine alone, based on a rough estimate of buying an £8 bottle of wine three times a week from the wine shop on the corner - there was a particular brand of chardonnay I was very fond of and it was £7.99. So actually doing some rough calculations I used to spend at least 20 times as much on booze as I do now. Or to put it another way, I spend 5% of what I used to. Or, to put it another way, I am saving at least £1,094 a year - probably more. Running it through the MSE Demotivator, that's £51,840.00 over a working life. That's a conservative estimate.

I go out with friends maybe three to five times a month for food/drink but to be honest I'm sure that's costing me less than before as well because I try to meet up at lunchtimes now and that doesn't always involve drink, whereas before it would always be an evening thing and there would always be copious drink.
  • thank you everyone , Baileys could I have 12 days for June please Thank you.

    Good morning everyone,

Cathybird very interesting about how much you have "saved" by not spending on booze. I'd hate to think how much I was spending on what I was drinking at the height of my problem. I was drinking most nights and I'd have a bottle of wine and then some so probably quite a sum.

I'm off to Canada on Thursday and after a lot of fretting I'm going to try and avoid booze as much as possible opting for something fizzy and non-alcoholic in the evenings. I hope I'm able to stick to it as I want to be able to take in all the sights and scenery, and as it's such a big trip I don't want to waste the time there hungover and not appreciating my surroundings. Not looking forward to the flight (not the best flyer at the best of time) and even in cattle class where I am going to be, there is the temptation to blot it out with booze. Still if I had paid for premium economy then I would have drunk absolutely shed loads! Talk about glass half full, looking at the bright side of being in the cheap seats.

Hope you all have a great Tuesday.

    8 please Baileys
