taking out economy 7 does supplier need to know ?
i took out all my economy 7 heaters , and the electrician instead of taking out wires from fuse box just cut the wire from the pre paid meter box , so i have no economy 7 anymore and runs on normal
but on my bills i have 15.6 p day rate and 7.3 p night rate
i have'nt told my supplier
am i meant to tell them ?
would they know ?

You have`nt changed the meter so if you are happy with a day/night split you don t have to tell the supplier but at least get on better tariffs than you are now.
There are many parts of the UK where Eco7 meters are installed as a matter of course where gas central heating is fitted from day one.
Power stations need to keep busy all night so certain areas near to large power stations have Eco 7 meters to encourage more night use. .
If you want to go single rate only apply to your supplier to change the meter0 -

The question that you have to ask yourself is whether you are happy with a dual rate given the high cost of the day rate? This will depend on how much energy you consume overnight.I would see this as a pen and paper exercise. Look at the total cost of what you are paying now, and then compare your usage to what you would be charged on a single kWh rate.
Some suppliers will let you switch to a single rate tariff with an E7 meter: they just add the day and night usage. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You STILL have economy 7 until you tell your supplier. ANYTHING you use at night will still be chatged at the night rate.
I have to ask, how are you heating the house now? What have you replaced the storage heaters with?
If most of your usage is now at the peak day rate, it would save you money by switching to a single rate supply now.0 -
It also depends on the meter setup and what your electrician cut.
The electrician sounds like a cowboy who did as little work as he could get away with. Any decent one would have explained all of this.
How are you heating now? With 300% more expensive electric panel heaters no doubt.0 -
...and the electrician instead of taking out wires from fuse box just cut the wire from the pre paid meter box....
What did he do with the wire he cut? Has he just left a bare wire, or has he connected it to something else in a safe way?
Did he remove the main fuse (the one before the meter)? If so he's probably broken the seal which could potentially result in you being suspected of electricity theft at some point in the future.
Can you post some pictures of the wiring to and from the meter and fusebox?"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Congratulations! You have just tripled your heating bills in an instant. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

You have not had E7 taken out, you have had your night storage heaters taken out (and a wiring change by a cowboy it sounds )
You do not need to tell your supplier of this change.
You are still on E7, and you will still receive 7 hours off cheap rate electricity every day0 -
