Gmail - autofilling fields old info - how to stop?

Options
Hi

I have a very old Gmail account I used to use just for sign ups to avoid spam. I created it with a made up name.

Now I'm having trouble with my AOL account I may want to switch to use the Gmail account but whenever I send mail out or send mail to myself from my mobile phone it keeps autofilling the "To" field with the made up name I no longer want to use.

Also when I send mail to myself from my phone it keeps putting in an old mobile telephone number in the "To" field, when I'm trying to send to the email address, not to a phone number.

Totally mystifying. Please does anyone know how I can:

(a) remove the old name associated with the account
(b) remove the phone number which seems to be associated with it
(c) when I type the email address in my phone/tablet, stop it autofilling with the old name and old telephone number?

This Gmail account is the one which is set to be my "Google" aco!!!! for phone use so would it be a pain to just open a new Gmail account and set that on my phone if I can't easily sort out the above issues?

Sorry for dim questions - this is another area I don't understand!

    Which 'gmail'?

On your phone via app/browser,PC via browser? Which browser if so?
  • Hi

    Thanks.

On the PC I spent ages fiddling over the weekend and "seem" to have stopped the autofilling there.

I use Chrome on the PC.

It's the mobile phone and tablet I'm having difficulty with.

So I have Gmail on the phone automatically. I open it up and go to send an email to myself. I start to type my email address in the "To" field and it automatically makes two suggestions:

    1. Firstly, a mobile phone number I don't recognise, linked to my email address. If I click on this, it puts the phone number into the "To" field.

    2. Secondly, it shows the fictitious name I created with the Gmail account originally, along with the email address. Clicking on this inserts the fictitious name into the "To" field.

Makes no sense to me that the PC and phone should differ.

And worryingly I've no idea where this mobile phone number came from or how to get rid of it.

Any help gratefully received. How I hate technology!!

The web browser on the phone I believe is also Chrome.

I will guess that this number is stored somewhere in your contacts on your phone and tablet. That is where the gmail app on a phone/tablet will look for autofill data.
