Last-minute.com.

Ok, I booked a long weekend in Amsterdam with Last minute .con last year. It's part of a family trip and other members of my family have booked the same flight and hotel. At the time the trip was booked for me and my then girlfriend. I have recently split from my girlfriend but as it's a family trip I will still be going on my own. The flights are with easy jet and checking in must be done online. Easy for me but I can't check in as I don't have the ex girlfriends passport details. I phoned last minute ( call centre is clearly in India ) explained I couldn't get her details and asked if she could be removed to witch the reply was yes and they would update the details in 24 hours. I received an email the next day day in my cancellation had been successful and a refund of £10 would be credited to my account. I phoned straight away and was told again that it was just the ex girlfriends name that had been taken of the booking and they would update it in 15 minutes. After 2 hours of waiting I phoned again to be told that the whole trip had been cancelled as that there policy. Not once was I told this and was only told several times that only her name would be removed so I could check in online. I'm now waiting 72 hours for them to investigate. Has anyone else had the same issue or similar problem.

Could you not of checked in on line without the ex-girlfreinds details as she is not going and she would just be " a no show " at the airport, there would then be an empty seat on the plane and you would have got no money back but also no hassle.
  • That's the problem the online check in would allow me to print boarding passes unless her details were also entered. I don't have her details so couldnt proceed with the check in. Last minute told me twice that they could remove her from the booking and at no time did they mention that they'd cancelled the whole thing.

You should have just made up some random details. Unfortunately lastminute.com is one of the worst 3rd party sites out there.
  • You can't make up random details they require passport numbers which I didn't have. If I'd of known they where going to cancel the whole thing I would of changed the name to someone else and just used there passport details even though they wouldn't of turned up. Last minute assured me severely times she would be removed not that they would cancel the whole thing. I'm now nearly 400 pound out of pocket. Disgraceful. Doesn't help that all call centres are in India and there a definite language barrier.

It is not terribly useful to tell the OP what he should have done now it is too late. Under normal circumstances the sensible thing to do is contact the supplier and follow their advice, perhaps paying a fee to get whatever you need to have done (such as revising a booking). Unfortunately in this case the supplier was part of eDreams, arguably the worst business in history, and the OP was essentially lied to about what was happening. If we are going to use hindsight then the only really key advice is to avoid unreliable travel agents, and this business in particular (it also trades under the name Opodo).

I fear that the only way to resolve this issue will be through the courts, unless a body such as ABTA or the CAA can help.

It was advice for the future or for others with the same problem. Lastminute is part of the Bravofly group, not eDreams, although both are groups to be avoided.
