Identity fraud on credit file

Hello,

So. I checked my credit score, and noticed there were missed payments for an account I did not recognise. I contacted the company and they advised they could not removed the missed payments as they have to report the truth to the credit agencies?! I was extremely unhappy with this, I spoke to a few people and they recommended contacting Equifax, I’ve contacted Equifax and they’ve sent me a message to let me know they are contacting the company that have recorded the missed payments, surely they will just say no again?

How am I supposed to get this sorted? Please help!

If you didn't open that account and Experian will confirm that this is indeed in your detail - go to the police and report identity theft.

I suspect that the company misunderstood your complaint.

You are not complaining about missed payments showing on your report (or at least you shouldn't be).

You should be informing the company that it appears that they have been the victim of fraud. Somebody seems to have fraudulently opened a credit account with them using your details.

(It's the company that is the victim of fraud, not you, so it would be for them to report to the police etc.)

Or, alternatively... you should be complaining to the company and and credit agencies that they are showing somebody else's account details on your credit report. (Perhaps because they have a similar name, address, DoB etc).

Yes, don't focus on the missed payments, they are a true fact in that the CC gave out a card and whoever used it didn't pay, so there are missing payments.

You need to inform the company that you have been a victim of identity theft and get them to investigate. Otherwise the late payments will turn into a default. Were these missing payments in recent months or older?
