I'd heard Currys PC World were bad but..

It should have been a very very simple situation. I bought my son a tv for Christmas, the tv developed a fault so I contacted Currys to invoke the warranty. Sadly I have had to fight tooth and nail to even be able to speak to anyone. When I finally did get through the Currys 'experts' at Teamknowhow told me there is no fault and are sending the tv back to me unrepaired!
I have literally had a battle on my hands to try and convince these people that there was a fault (the screen flickers violently) and that I have a warranty and consumer rights. Currys just don't seem to care. Their downtrodden staff seem to be expecting unhappy customers and have no idea about customer service. The whole thing has left a very bitter taste in the mouth and now I'm stuck with what to do.
I got a friend to put my story on his website here buzzsteam.com/2018/01/28/i-never-shop-currys-pc-world-ever to warn others. It such an awful situation though we feel so powerless.

If the screen flickers violently demonstrate this fault to them.0

What tv is it you bought, was it a cheap brand or model?
Also if your useing the Tv through a Sky or Virgin box or something simeler it could be that at fault and nothing to do with the Tv0 -
Just read the blog mentioned, had to laugh at the description of the two "heavies" who came to collect the set using it as an (unprotected) umbrella in a thunderstorm and claiming not to know English!
Obviously, Curry's have found no fault with the set which is why they are returning it. So you'll have to demonstrate the fault to them. You can do this by providing your own video evidence of the fault occurring. You can take this on your Smartphone if necessary.0 -
Just been on that forum link and there's a belter of a line on there!!!buzzfeed_website wrote:The TV was collected (on the agreed date and time) by two (what I can only describe as very rough looking heavies – not their fault I guess but didn’t fill me with confidence)
:rotfl: Who were you expecting?! An old granny with grey hair?! An underweight spotty 19 year old?! Someone in a suit and tie?! Someone in a wheelchair?!
Anyone lifting heavy objects on a daily basis for Currys (who sell ovens, washing machines etc) is probably going to be a bit "rough looking" and a bit of a "heavie" :rotfl:
"didn't fill me with confidence" - talk about judging a book by its cover!! You lift it next time
Anyway, that aside I did read your whole buzzfeed post thing (you should have put it on here) and my comments are thus:
I think Currys are in the right here. They have taken in the item and have been unable to replicate the fault. There is literally nothing they can do if the fault doesn't present itself when they test it!! Currys actually offered to "re-assess" the TV if you continued to have the issues, or advised you to get a fault report (which is fully refundable IF they are able to confirm an inherent fault). The tone of the email was nice as well, so I don't really see any malice or lying.
You did mention that the flickering started after roughly an hour though, and that restarting the TV/pushing cables in did initially solve the problem. So MAYBE they didn't test it for an hour? Or MAYBE the wiring is wrong (yes, I know you are a "senior network engineer" but I'm still saying it!). That aside, it is all about having evidence to show what you are saying; maybe just get that fault report and go back to Currys.
Oh and you mention "warranty" but when you approach Currys you are invoking your CONSUMER RIGHTS, not the warranty! In terms of your consumer rights, Currys is complying up to now (they have an engineer report which confirms no fault). As I said, if you dispute that assessment then either send it back for reassessment (as offered) OR get your own independent fault report!
The other option is to approach the MANUFACTURER of the TV and see if the warranty terms cover this/are more favourable.
Oh and I forgot to add but it is possible that localised interference is the cause here....0 -
OP, what was the point of trying to hide your identity (or rather what I expect to be your sons identity) by covering the name & face of the person who tweeted on social media - where its available for the world to see (including their name, face, picture of their football team etc)?
As for the tv, does it happen on different types of connection/input? I know you said you tried different HMDI cables but did you also test to see if it happens when its receiving a signal via aerial, or USB? Did you test to see if it still happened when connecting another device via HDMI? Did you try adjusting the refresh rate? What device/s did you test it with? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Quite the rant - did you try another device connected to the TV?0
