Halifax PPI/Plevin confusion

Hi

apologies if this has already been covered somewhere. I did have a look and didn't see anything so hopefully I'm not duplicating anything!

I recently applied for repayment through Plevin on my Halifax mortgage PPI which I took out in 2007. I put the claim through Resolver. I put in the covering letter that it wasn't a mis-selling claim, but Plevin. When I had the acknowledgement from the Halifax it referred to mis-selling so I rang them and was assured that they'd amended it. A couple of weeks ago I had a phone call from someone regarding the claim and I again made it clear (I thought) that it was a Plevin claim not mis-selling.

When I got home from work today I'd had a letter saying that I was going to get a very nice 4 figure payment as my mis-selling complaing has been upheld. The letter also says that they will be cancelling the policy. However, I can contact them to let them know that I want the policy to stay open.

Am I being thick, or does it sound like they have based it on mis-selling rather than Plevin?

Apologies, again, if this has been covered somewhere else and thanks in advance for any help :)

Plevin does not require cancellation of the policy. A missale complaint would.

Plevin only applies to rejected PPI mis-selling complaints.

So you can't simply complain about undisclosed commission without also triggering an investigation of mis-sale.

Since the Bank have found in your favour over mis-selling, it's natural that your PPI has been cancelled.

right - thank you. So, if I want to keep the policy open does that mean that I then won't be eligible for the compensation? I have claimed on this policy in the past and they did payout which is why I said I didn't believe that I'd been mis-sold the policy.

They've given you the option of keeping the PPI policy. That won't affect the redress you will receive.

I'd say you've been exceedingly lucky to have claimed on the insurance and also been refunded the policy plus interest!

Thanks Moneyineptitude :) oh, I agree!!! They have, however, deducted the value of the amount I've claimed from the offer which is not a problem at all - I'm just so surprised to have been offered anything!!!

That was to be expected, but it's still rare for a complaint to be upheld on a policy which has been claimed upon. So well done.
