Hi all,
I'm after a reasonably cheap laptop mainly for use for the kids, such as some internet browsing, utubing etc. Thus a chromebook potentially is ideal.
I was looking at something like the Dell Chromebook 3380 with a Intel Celeron C3855 processor. That said I was also looking at what that kind of price range (250-300) might get me in terms of refurb options. Basically the priority for me is reasonably quick web browsing, I would say.
Mycheaplaptop seem reasonable pricewise, offer a 1yr warranty and are literally round the corner from me so potentially ideal. Therefore I was comparing some of the business refurb models around the price range I was looking at, with intel core i5. We have a lenovo g580 which despite being dropped multiple times when our kids were young, refuses to die (albeit the screen is literally hanging off now) so I would be naturally drawn to a lenovo such as this as a potential option:

What are peoples thoughts? The bonus of having a better machine (if indeed it would be much better despite the dated technology) for the same money does appeal, and is probably a little more flexible. I have a macbook air as well as our main decent laptop, so just as above for the kids and some browsing, mainly.
Thanks in advance

If you are really only looking for Browsing & Youtube, then the Lenovo is overkill (though offers scope for growth into gaming and homework).
Have you thought about a Tablet?0 -

Depending on the age of the kids, but I would say desktop.
A chrome book might be ok now, but limited performance, and possibly your kids may outgrow it sooner than you think.0 -
Personally would stick to windows.0

Great thanks for the advice all. Think I will go for a refurb Windows laptop and will have a look at that dell0

I ended up getting the dell chromebook with touchscreen, including 3 year warranty for £270 which I considered to be a reasonably good deal. It is obviously much more limited in some respects than the refurbed laptops I was also looking at. That said it is so responsive and quick to boot up- quite similar to my macbook in a lot of ways and almost as nice to use. Also I can get all the android apps on it which comes in quite handy as well as the free 100gb cloud storage for 2 years.
Just thought I'd update in case it helps anyone else decide but all in all I'm quite impressed with the chromebook so far.0
