Hello, if sending an expensive item by special delivery, when the post office issue
a receipt for postage which also has the barcode tracking number on it, can you also
ask them to stamp a separate certificate of posting for this for extra insurance (in case if one gets lost), or can they only do one or the other and refuse to do both.

The special delivery receipt (with the tracking number on) is a form of certificate of posting. I don't see how having a certificate of posting in addition would give you any more protection, or allow you to claim more in the event of loss.

It wouldn't really make any difference.

One proof of posting and tracking is enough. Two proofs of posting don't add any more weight to it.

Just keep the one you have safe. If youre likely to lose one then youre likely to lose both...

OK, i asked for a certificate of posting to be stamped, but was refused, as they they said
I had a receipt. So I take it they are not permitted to do both. It's one or the other.
I can understand it looks like it could be seen to be sending two separate items, but
they could have just written the tracking number on the certificate also (the address was
already printed on the certificate when creating the postage label - the two separate documents
I received after buying the posatge online).

It's just that on the certificate, when i downloaded the postage label, it said the online certificate of posting must be stamped if any compensation claim can be made, so i was worried. As I was refused, I assume they are allowed to refuse if a customer asks for both?

You have a receipt. What that means is you can't just print it off the website, and then not actually post it and then claim it is lost.

The receipt overrides the need for a stamp.
  • My question is, if you ask for both, are they allowed to refuse you and say no?

I don't see why not. Its more work for them, and could end up with you having a 'double' proof for one item, when all you need to do is hold on to the proof you do have.
