UK trip travel insurance?

Got a trip planned to scotland with wife for birthday.
Was thinking though, its easyjet so no cancel. Hotels are cancellable up to a certain date.
Trouble is there are so many things that can go wrong apart from one of us. Kids are ill, MIL (whos babysitting) is ill etc etc.
Is there anything that covers us or is it just tough? In terms of illness of a relative would it mean serious illness rather than just "got flu and not up to looking after kids"?
