Front door opening outwards??

Hi

I’m looking to get a new front porch door. Currently have a set of French doors that open in and lead into the main door. Having a new door won’t allow to be open inwards so the chap suggested a door that open out. I thought that was odd as I have never seen a front door going outwards

Anyone have experience?

I would say it’s different not odd.
When out canvassing I knock on many doors and yes when space in porches is limited as you describe the doors do open outwards.
(Note not the main front door but the outer porch door).

Our porch doors both open out, front door itself opens in.
Never seemed odd to us!

I do a lot of deliveries to houses and porch doors which open outwards are pretty common.

I have a friend whose only front door opens outwards. It would seriously put me off buying a house with that sort of arrangement. Porch doors, fine, front doors, no thanks.

Porch door inwards and main door outwards is a bit odd. Our porch is quite small and both porch doors and main door open inwards. We take our shoes off in the porch and an inward opening porch door makes this difficult. Hence when we have some money saved up, we plan to get the porch doors arranged so they open outwards instead.

Most of the houses on our street have a porch door that opens outwards. The rest have standard front doors that open inwards.

Very useful feature for getting rid of unwanted callers! Mine opens outwards for the reason others have stated - -not enough room to open inwards, not been a problem (for me) for 15 years or more!

Especially if they stand too close to the door hoping to stick their foot in - Often ends with a bloody nose :laugh:

Another advantage of an outward opening door is that they are a little more resistant to being kicked or battered in.

Thanks. Assured that it’s not an uncommon thing. Spent the whil day driving looking out for doors opening outwards!!

In Finland (where I grew up) all front doors open outwards, it took me a while to get used to the British ones opening inwards and it still doesn't feel quite right! Apparently the opening outwards is a fire safety thing (more relevant to public buildings where a lot of people might need to get out, and a door opening inwards would increase risk of the mob blocking the door).

On the other hand, it'll be harder to barricade against anyone trying to get in!

My back door opens outwards, I asked for it to be made that way, my neighbour liked it so much, he got his to open outwards as well.
