sleepinitaly.com is good for apartments and there's a bus from the airport into Rome.

www.tripadvisor.co.uk has hotel reviews. The reviews often point out the locality in terms of safety etc.

It's pretty easy to get to the city centre; there are regular and reasonably priced buses, although from memory it might take an hour or so.

For hotels and reviews about good/bad areas, I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post. I also found the discount code on another forum.
  • The Terravision bus leaves Ciampino every 15 minutes for Termini Station. Can get tickets online, on Ryanair flight or on the bus(I think). About 8 euros each way. Venere has a really useful map, but I would stay fairly close to Termini, for the airport coach and the bus station, and it is walkable to the historical sites. The express bus goes from Termini to the Vatican too. I would recommend eating in a trattoria that is heaving with locals in the evening - we did and were not disappointed.

Stayed in the Hotel Domus Praetoria after reading about it on Tripadvisor a couple of years ago.
Superb and just a short walk from the termini plenty of places to eat within waling distance and the rooms very large and spotlessly clean.
You get a voucher for breakfast at a small cafe across the road so you get to hang about with the locals. Would stay there again
We all evolve - get on with it
  • We stayed in the Hotel Veneto, there's a train to the town centre then it's about 10 mins walking. It's a good central location - google it, it has a website. It's the one that looks like a converted palazzo.
