Hotmail stopped syncing (Windows phone)

My oldest Hotmail.com is set up as my main Microsoft account on my Nokia Lumia 920. (I know Windows phone isn't everyone's cup of tea but I love it and have never had any problems with it before)
Has always worked fine, never had a problem until about a month ago when this Hotmail account suddenly stopped syncing. When I press sync, it'll say "Syncing" and then tell me it's "having a problem connecting to eas.outlook.com. Contact a support person or your service provider." Also gives Error code: 86000C09
This hotmail account works fine on my other devices and I have 2 other hotmail accounts, one .co.uk and another .com and these both continue to work fine on the phone.
As well as not receiving emails to my phone, of course this also means that my photos are not going to OneDrive and the calendar is not connected. Very frustrating
Anyone familiar with Windows phone got any ideas please?

Thank you!
I tried several of the suggestions and, finally, found one on page 8 that appears to have worked! (deleting the phone from the device list in outlook, while signed in via web browser, and then reconnecting by syncing from account on phone)
I had tried googling the error code a few times over the last month but hadn't found anything that had worked, and had just about given up hope, so I'm very grateful for your help.
