Water getting into ford fiesta ztec spark plug wel

My partner's car keeps on getting water going into the spark plug well when it rains. Its getting in via the jet washers. A garage has seen it twice and put some black silicone around the washers, which worked for a few days but now the engine warning light is back on again. Does anybody have any experience with anything like this?

Sounds like a very common issues.


Might be worth having a go with the sealant yourself to get the best job. ( 2 places )

What Fiesta Mk5, Mk6 or MK7?


I had an issue where rain had got into number 2 spark plug hole. Turnt out I keep having running issues that threw up battery problems etc.

I had let a mobile mechanic who I thought was good service the car, He hadnt re-fit the lead fully home, allowing the rain to enter on to the plug and rust the contact away. I had only noticed this as I decided to service the car myself upon its next service.

My car is a zetec Mk7 I bought brand new so I knew all its history and who had touched it.

I believe ford do a modified Washer jet for these, call them and check if your car has the modified part

Not sure about the engine size in your Fiesta but it's a common problem on the MK2 Focus 1.4 and 1.6 petrol models, it can easily be fixed with a Volvo engine cover.

Thank you everyone - the car's in the garage today, although my partner was tempted to try and sort it out he's letting them take another look as the work they did before is still under warranty.
