Replace roof on bay window

Options
Hi

I've got a small bay window at the front of my house.

The main roof was replaced by the previous owners but this small bay window has been left.

I live in a rural location and not many roofers work in my area. I've manage to get one roofer to come round and quote.

I want it replaced like for like with traditional slate, I'm not sure what type of slate is on my main roof. But will obviously want the same.

There is some staining inside the house under the bay window, I've been up and had a look and the roof looks to be in pretty poor condition, cracked slates that have been pinned. There's also no lead flashing at the top, only on the hips.

Has anyone had a bay window roof replaced or are there any roofer on that can give me a rough price?

The roof is about 1 metre x 2.5 metres and is already pitched.

if you are in thurso and your house is old, chances are you have ballachulish slate (not sure there are slate quarries in caithness?) on your roof but slate is slate.

If its a small roof, you may be able to re use the good slates and replace the broken ones.

Can't really give you a price shouldn't be too expensive though. also get some insulation in there when the roof is off.

So had two roofers out to look at it,

One said the slates are shot and there is no lead apron where the roof joins the wall, they will take it all back, new felt, new batons, new tiles and insert s lead apron.

The other seemed to think there was a problem with the guttering, he would replace the metal guttering with plastic, take the slates off, re felt, batons and put the old slates back on.

The damp is coimng through at what appears to be the top of the roof, not near the guttering.

Anyone got any thoughts on this, I'm quite confused as to what to do. No prices yet but obvious the first scenario will be more expensive.

It sounds like the lead apron (flashing) is leaking, if the second bloke is using the old tiles it may work out cheaper. The first bloke can't be arsed to save the tiles so will rip them off and throw them in a skip. To be honest I would lean towards the second, get the gutters done the same time. I would imagiine they are going to be a similar price.
