Concrete base for shed

I am planning to build a shed in the garden. There is already a concrete base where a shed stood before but there was a crack in the concrete with raised edges and a pretty big hole. I have cut away the concrete along either side of the crack so what remains is not completely but at least fairly level. The question now is whether I can patch this up with concrete resurfacer and how.

Most internet resources explain how to fill a hole inside. Obviously my problem is outside.

- Generally it is said the gap must be cleaned thoroughly. In my case, though, I assume I have to leave the base underneath the concrete intact and not brush it all away.
- The shed will be on skids so would there be a need to apply a floor leveling compound or a new layer of concrete? Would it be okay to fill the gap and put the shed on top as it is?

My current plan is to flatten and leave the lower layer, apply concrete bonding along the edges of the existing concrete and then fill the hole with new concrete. There are small bumps in the concrete but I assume the skids will take care of this.

Does anyone have any experience or advice to give? Would the proposed method work or should I remove the entire base?

That "concrete" looks about an inch thick so has no strength at all. On the other hand you're only putting a small shed up so I'd be inclined to just put it onto what you've got.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

    How deep is the hole?

If it’s more than couple of inches I’d mix up a bit of concrete any less a stiff mix of sharp sand and cement will do it.

I wouldn't do anything to that base. Set a framework of 2x6 treated timber down then build your shed on that.

You don't actually say, but can we assume that there will be a wooden floor (as you mention 'skids').
If so, then don't worry about what's going under the floor as long as it's strong enough to carry the shed.

The shed will be the size of the concrete slab so it won't be very big.

Would leaving it open like that not make any wood rot faster? I have also been warned that foxes dig under sheds and can cause damage. Leaving loose ground like that seems like an open invitation, doesn't it?

I had not specifically decided on the material of the shed yet, but wood does seem the most likely option.

If you build a wooden base that edges the whole floor area then foxes will not be able to dig underneath and relax in that bit of broken concrete! (as if it's a hugely appealing space for them anyway).
