Can someone do these flooring calculations for me?

We have been given two pieces of cushion flooring which is amazing as it saves us paying our for flooring temporary for 12 months. The measurements are 7 X 5 metres which if I've got it right is about 35 metres square for each piece.

I'm trying to work out how to work out what will fit into my rooms. I know in total my rooms are 55.74 square metres but I'm not sure which rooms we will be able to do give the sizes.

The room sizes are below:

Measurements are These are the sizes.....

Room 1 (5.56m x 3.91m)

Room 2 (3.23m x 2.72m)

Room 3 (3.61m x 3.51m)

Room 4 (3.58m x 3.51m)

We would ideally like to do room 1 and room 2 as a minimum and either room 3 or room 4 as well. I just can't work out whether this is possible. I never was very good at maths!

You need 55.77 metres of flooring.

Yes, I should have said please. Please, there is no excuse for me not asking politely & I'm not been sarcastic. Sunday morning bad manners . . .

I'd managed to work that out, but what I can't work out is exactly what rooms I can do with the two pieces. I think I'm right in saying I can do the first two but I don't think I can do rooms 3 or 4.

    Thank you

If you want it down in one piece you can only do two rooms.

    Thank you.

That's great, one of the other rooms may have to look like patchwork!

Room1 will fit within Piece 1, leaving an L-shaped remnant that is not large enough to cover any of the other rooms.

Room2 will fit within Piece 2, and can go either way around (both room dimensions are less than 5m).

If you place Room2 within Piece 2 so that the 3.23m side matches the 5m side, then it will leave a large remnant, the square piece of which will be 5m x 4.28m - large enough to cover either of the other rooms.

If you place Room2 within Piece 2 so that the 3.23m side matches the 7m side, this also works, but will be a tighter fit for Rooms 3 or 4.

Your best bet is to draw and cut out some scale pieces. So long as you use the same scale for the rooms and the of-cuts you will be able to move them around to find the best (most economic) fit. Easier with smaller bits of paper than actual bits of flooring.
