  • Good morning chums a beautiful bright and sunny day at the moment here in kent . had a lovely night out last night with DD ,son-in-law and her ma-in-law Margaret. DD is trying to keep her focussed and busy before the funeral this Thursday. She is OK but I think a bit worried about going back to her own house next week. But my son-in-law is helping her no end and last night we were talking about how he can increase her security in her house.I have promised that I will visit her as often as I can weather permitting at the moment .She lives around 40 miles away but I don't mind.Having been where she is now I know how scary it must be for her to suddenly be indoors on her own after having someone around. Her DD lives about ten minutes walk away and two of her Dds children are going to pop in at odd times to see her We are working out a rota so she will see someome at least once a day at various time .She is 81 bless her and never driven so I will make sure especially in the summer to get her out and about. She is such a nice lady and Thursday will be hard for her.My DD has a caravan at deal and I said I will be happy to take her down there for the odd week here and there and as I drive still it will be nice for her to get around with someone near to her age .We get on very well and she is very alert and has a good sense of humour.she uses her Ipad and takls to our grandson Danny in New York via WhatsApp so she is quite savvy about using a computer.I told her life will not be back to normal after Thursday it will be different and I will make sure she doesn't get isolated as often happens when you are widowed. My DD and son-in-law have been very good and my son-in-law especially has been doing lots of odd jobs at her house for her to make life a bit easier. We will get her through and as a family draw together for her support.

Well today I have lots of odd jobs that I had been putting off to do,silly one really. I have four different pictures to hang up that have been framed, and were just sitting on the shelf waiting for me to find the hammer and inclination to put them up :)

Dinner at youngest Dds tonight and already I have made a mincemeat tart for our pudding using up some of the frozen pasty bits I got from my freezer.

Dumpling I do hope you get lots of help for Becky, you are an amazing Mu and your OH and Dds must be so proud of you.

Ikea RR is a place to me I would avoid like the plague unless it was a quiet day Saturdays are a definite No No :)

czarina I too din't sleep well, and was up during the night ,wide awake for no apparent reason, but I had my lap-top so mooched about for an hour or so on there :) I do jigsaws on my laptop as well which I enjoy.

dp1 How odd its only one foot that gets a hole in the sock You obviously have a sock gremlin in your boot :)I used to tell my DGS they had sock gremlins as I spent hours sewing up their socks ,more so when they were at school I think it was the excercise they had running around that did their holes :)

Gers enjoy your Charlie Bingham I though I was the only one who bought them Y/s they are far too expensive to buy at normal prices :)I had a couple last year and they were lovely but normal prices are just ridiculous

Right must get a wriggle on or the day will be half over Have a great sunday chums what ever you are doing and keep warm and dry if you can

    JackieO xx
  • Morning all, I have spent most of the morning messing about and really need to get my considerable arris in gear.

Dumpling, I hope you gave a better week. FBO that is so sad but I know that this happens quite commonly, that doesn't take the sting out of it though.

It has been sunny and breezy here so my washing is out though it is clouding over now. At least it will have had a bit of a blow. Must get another load in soon.

I have stuff to do, then Sunday dinner to cook, roast chicken with etcetera. They do like etcetera, my fellas.

Hope people have a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Positive vibes for everyone. My condolences to everyone as well especially to FOB.

I'm actively wedding planning now to get an idea of venue costs and what they include.

I haven't had motivation to do anything today but I need to get my planning for work done. My minds gone blank and can't think of anything

I also need to do this week's shop as we were busy with other things yesterday.

I had a good sleep and woke up for an hour or two before me and my OH fell asleep cuddling.

We both feel a bit under the weather today but getting there.

No idea for tea tonight.... but I've just finished the pizza we ordered on Friday lol

Sorry, have been AWOL for a few days; Life the Universe and Everything just seems to keep getting in the way.

Been skim-reading the last few days' threads, but tbh not taken in a great deal.

Lainey so sorry to hear about Rosie - it's so awful when they leave us isn't it; I hope Tilly is feeling a little more settled - dogs do grieve, I've seen it with Cassie after Bailey left for the Summerlands.
I'm pleased that Lulu has moved to her new home and is settling in nicely.

I may again not be around much this week; Mr LW has two horse-piddle appts tomorrow (09:45 and 16:00) so that means I have some driving to do  as it's a lot cheaper for me to bring the car home then collect him when he's done than for him to pay £££ in car parking fees. I suspect it will pretty much wipe me out energy-wise, though; it's a nuisance that the two appts are on the same day, but many hours apart.

I don't think much to this new system of not being allowed to edit posts, and having to wait 120 seconds between posts. The editing bit in particular is a PITA as I cannot type for toffee, and almost always have to go back to correct typos. Oh well, if some of my posts seem a tad surreal, that'll be the reason. ;);)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

    Afternoon all,

If i had an hour and a half of sleep last night thats as much as i had as i'd got too ill children to care for. I didnt know till a few hours before my Grandchildren arrived that LiveWire had been/was ill. I found out about LiveWire when The Blonde One supplied me with a bottle of nurofen for kids in case it was needed. He'd got a nasty cold. Yes it was needed. Then just as my SIL headed towards the door as he dropped Diva off he wished me good luck. Apparently Diva hadnt stoped crying/moaning all day. She didnt stop on my watch either. :( Found out what was wrong when the contents of her nappy couldnt hold what she expelled at 3 in the morning. Oh what joy!

Grump has put himself to bed, ive had an hour on the settee and Youngest is frightened to come out his room.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

    Hi everyone
Had a lovely Sunday lunch at my mams and dads and a lovely play with my two great nieces, aged 1 and 3.
I have a question for Gers and anyone else who knows Glasgow....In a couple of weeks time I'm visiting Glasgow, just for one night. Basically because I was fiddling on the laptop one day and found cheap train fares to Glasgow which were just £16 return. Further investigation found a Travelodge room for just over £20. I arrive at Glasgow Central station at about12.30 midday and leave again about 2 the following day. I'm staying at the Central Travelodge.
So I'm looking for places to visit . Which is best from the list I have so far....Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Hunterian Museum, The Peoples Palace, Scotland Street Museum, The Tenement museum??
Obviously not all of them (!) but I would appreciate some reommendations. I would prefer to walk if possible, weather permitting. I like art, social history, history and am the kind of person who reads all the labels and signs in museums!

Hi dp1, You would need to get a bus or the underground to get to Kelvingrove and you could be there all day, it's pretty big! The Huntarian isn't too far away nor are the Botanic Gardens.

Glasgow Cathedral is worth a visit, St Mungo's Museum of Religous Life & Art is next door and the Provan's Lordship across the road, all within easy walking distance of Central Station.

The People's Palace is lovely, set in the middle of Glasgow Green so a lovely walk and right next to the River. The Tenement House is also within easy walking distance.

Don't forget the Gallery of Modern Art right in the city centre (where the Duke of Wellington with a cone on his head sits outside).

Hope you have a good time, let me know if you need any help!

Thank you.....So probably best to do Kelvingrove after I arrive and stay all afternoon and the Peoples Palace the next morning? Would like a wander down Sauchiehall Street too if I have time but not too fussy if I don't. I really enjoy museums.... even more so now my girls are grown up and I can go round them very slowly by myself! Can I get a bus from Central station to Kelvingrove?

I have to shamefully admit that despite living here for 10 years I’ve only ever been to the cafe at Kelvingrove and browsed the Hunterian.

They are walkable from the centre, but it would be a lot of walking. A one day bus pass might save on shoe leather!

Beware the Tenement house is up a VERY steep hill.

What is going on with Edit?

To add: Lots of buses to Kelvingrove. Sauchiehall st is just a shopping st. It’s lost most of its character.
