I’ve applied for a Santander everyday current account and received and email saying :

Thank you, we’ve received your current account application.

Thanks for your application. We’re looking through it now and we’ll be in touch in 2 working days with more details about your application including what you’ll need to do next.

Is this the usual process or am I likley to be declined ?

I’ve only opened ( attempted ) to open the account on the basis that I will open the regular e saver with 3%. - pay £200 from my Lloyd’s act to the S current account and then to the S monthly saver
I have a main Club Lloyd’s current account with a monthly saver paying 2.5% (I transfer £250 monthly)and a club Lloyd’s monthly saver paying 3% ( transfer £400 monthly), a Lloyd’s cash isa with £10k paying a pathetic 0.35%. I also have the virgin money monthly saver paying 2.25% which I pay in £250 monthly. Also I have Halifax everyday saver @ 2.5% that I pay £200 monthly ( no current account, just savings account)

I have Barclays current account which I put £100 via standing order for holidays , however I’ve not withdrawn any monies for over 2 years .

The only ‘debt’ I have is £270 a month to Audi for PCP. I have a Lloyd’s credit card which I repay in full every month . Plus EE mobile contract at £20 per Month

The question asked upon opening the Santander account was ‘how much will you be paying in each month?’ To which I answered £200. I’m wondering if this is what got me referred ?! In a nutshell I’m trying maximise my income from savings. Santander seemed to be one that stood out without switching current accounts with all the drama of ‘pay in x amount with x amount of DD’s”

All advice welcome, I’m not a seasoned professional saver like some on here, infact quite the novice!

i have a santander 123 lite account and it was confirmed open within minutes of the application, i have been refused accounts in the past when i've had a email stating they will let me know, i think most accounts will be approved online.
  • I also got the same email from them when I opened the Lite 123. They also sent a couple of other emails with documents to read. The next working day (I applied Sunday, heard from them Monday), they emailed to confirm it was open.

Have you ever had a Santander account in the past?

I had the same sort of message when I applied. Turns out they picked up my (closed) childhood account and addresses didn't match.

They sent me a change of details form which i returned, and approved the new account request.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago when I opened a 123 account. I had previously had an account with Alliance and Leicester when they were taken over by Santander. After a couple of days it was sorted.

I recently closed a santander topup and basic account, I did so because I kept getting declined for their everyday current account, So once those accounts were closed, It processed right away and opened the account instantly. Before I use to get those same emails saying they would be in touch, So high chance it's declined or needs further checks.

I'm really glad that I read that - I have received a number of 'security' emails from Santander (about changes in terms or the like) and was a bit concerned that they contained my full name and some other details, yet I've never been a customer. I had an old A&L account many years ago, but hadn't realised they'd taken them over.

That might well make it easier to open a new Santander account as I want a second account as a reserve/saving account in the near future.

I had an email Monday morning saying the account was now open and ready to use. No account number etc supplied. Guess I’ll have to wait for my card to come through the post.

That is standard practice :) Always a lag between being approved online and recieving something in the post with account number & sort code.
