MalwareBytes using all available RAM

I just booted into Windows 7 (64-bit) and noticed that the MalwareBytes system tray icon hadn't appeared.
I waited a while, then started MB manually. A pop-up appeared saying, "Real-Time Protection turned off". It doesn't seem possible to turn it back on or stop the pop-up reappearing.
With my idle PC using 1 or 2GB RAM, MBAMService.exe starts and uses a consistently-increasing amount of memory, until, a few minutes later, it's using 10GB and Windows complains about low-memory.
I've scanned for viruses with Avast, uninstalled, rebooted, downloaded MB, (re)installed it and tried again, but the same thing happens.
The MalwareBytes support site is "down for maintenance". So I wondered whether it was just me having these problems, or whether the support site is down because lots of people are?!

Ah -- not to worry. I eventually managed to get brief access to the MB forum and find a link to a "cleanup utility" which fully removes and reinstalls MB, and it seems to have worked.

I don't know why MB have such a buggy uninstaller that it leaves dysfunctional junk on your system, but it seems pretty common with "security" software... :-/0 -
It was an update problem but is now fixed. How to resolve / verify you have the fixed update package ***
Update package version 1.0.3803 or higher contains the fix
To resolve, simply reboot your machine. In some cases, a second reboot may be needed.
To verify you have this update, go to Settings -> About -> Update package version: 1.0.38030
