Best banking account for us?

My partner and I want to open a joint account together, but we are both new to banking. what we are really looking for is somewhere to put money away like a savings account and potentially save for a deposit for a property but still able to withdraw/spend for everyday spending.
We each have our separate cash accounts and do not want to switch whilst I'm a student or until we have found a place to call home.
Is there a good deal to look into? I have looked on this site but I still honestly don't have a clue! please help! thank you!

As with all the newbie 'best bank' threads (there seem to be a lot of these at the moment...) have a look at Martin's best bank guide (here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts). There are lots of 'good deals' there.0

You don't say how much money is involved initially
Santander pay about 1.5% on the first 20000 but there is a monthly fee and you have to have direct debit set up although you can get cashback from these direct debits which will mitigate the £5 fee
if the sums are less then you could look at Lloyds or TSB both of which pay some interest on the first few thousand
if you just want a savings account then i believe the best current instant access savings accounts is Tesco at 1.3%0 -
I have already looked into the best bank accounts page, unfortunately when I look though we seem to tick one or more of the 'wrong accounts to switch to if'...
I didn't specify how much we will be putting in per month because atm I don't work as I am a student and he will only put in spare bits and drabs here and there (about 400 pounds) until we move in, so paying a fee for rewards etc, isn't appealing...
I shall take a look at the Tesco howeverthank you

If you do go for the Tesco internet Saver account at 1.3% you could also try opening a Tesco current account and download the app to your phone this would enable you to transfer money easily between the two and use your debit card on the current account for spending should you wish0

Do you fully understand the commitments you make with a joint account? If not, google for it.0

Open an interest-paying current account or standard savings account for the latter by all means but go down the route of a Help to Buy ISA or a Lifetime ISA each for the house money, as the 25% government bonus is hard to beat.0
