    Here's a typical website.

I would not touch this with a proverbial bargepole.

Investments like this are not covered by the FSA.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

    Wow... Just wow!

If I really wanted to invest like that, I'd pick a listed logging firm with a replanting policy and would buy their shares. At least then you know that they have to be following the market rules about submitting financial statements and other such important rules that registered companies have to follow.

This way, you essentially send off money to a company, and they inform you of how much your "investment" is worth at any time. Presumably you never see your trees, you never have any say over their treatment, and you never have any say over the selling cost or the time at which they choose to harvest?

For all I know they could just be keeping all the money you send and be doing nothing with it at all!

    I'll pass too.

  • I AM targeting long term buys:

    * Water treatment stocks - China & India need lots of clean water, Water is the most imported liquid in the world.

    * Timber - rainforest going down quick, needs replacement wood so price should go up long term. There are some good Canadian income trust - 8-9% yield till 2011.

Most of this stock is recession proof and has good long term trends.;)

yea but you have forgot it is unlikely that as much timber will be used in the future. most things will be done wirelessly like email telephone etc. new methods of house building will be made.

also rainforests take years to grow, let alone 1 tree takes up to 100 years to grow to a decent size. by the time your tree grows to a large size, you will be dead. you could use that tree to make your casket.
