Me and fiance thought of a business idea... what's the steps of making it possible.

Options
Buisness idea: We're wedding planning but both finding it difficult to find a venue woth our wants and needs. We thought of the idea that there should be a wedding builder that helps piece every single thing of the wedding together to make it pretty much exactly how you want your special day to be.

For an example, we both want a lovely country csstle/manor house venue with a fun buffet but all the venues I've looked at only do sit down meals... so part of the wedding builder would be something like:

Food
Evening meal:
At the ceremony venue or a different one
(Wed click at the ceremony venue)
Sit down meal or buffet
(Click buffet) - Maybe have a selection/filter of types of things they want so pizza, sausage rolls ECT then
Third party catering or in house catering or all choices
(All choices to see what venues offer the type of buffet we want or could include)

I really love this idea

  • If I owned a country castle / manor house type venue, I think I would be wanting to maximise turnover / profits from each event held, which is possibly why they only offer sit down meals rather than buffets or allowing third party caterers. They can only take a finite number of bookings for the venue, after all.

I also - perhaps naively - thought that would be precisely the kind of thing you'd pay a wedding planner to sort out for you, and there are plenty of those about.

But I know nothing: our wedding was many years ago, and far simpler to arrange than anyone today seems to believe possible.

As per the other posts, i really cant see too many wedding venues allowing you to simply here a room that they could otherwise get ££,£££ for providing a full end to end wedding banquet.

Also these pizzas and sausage rolls - how are you going to get them to a venue that might be 100 miles away and keep them hot the whole time? OR are you proposing using the venues kitchens too? (not happening) Sounds like a logistical nightmare - going in potentially blind to different venues and making it all "work".

Cant see it working TBH. If someone is doing the castle / major venue event then they're going to want a proper sit down meal anyway. And all of these venues already offer snack food options if people want snacks on arrival or for the evening guests

Strip that out and you're basically setting yourselves up as wedding planners with no experience in an already competitive and crowded market.
  • Mate of mine operates a large country house as a wedding venue. He finds that with a venue (alone), it's hard to make money. Everyone wants to squeeze your price down. In his view, it's the wedding INTEGRATOR who makes money - this person contracts cars, flowers, food, venue, music, photographer, etc. etc (and squeezes their costs), but then pushes UP the total price to the punter. The profit lies in the PACKAGE, not the components.

OP i dont think your looking hard enough, been to a couple of places who will do the catering or allow you to do your own.

If your thinking of starting a business i think you need to do a lot more research first. It will be your job to find these places so you should have extensive knowledge on what is available and its location and facilities.

17th and 18th century places in Staffordshire and in Cumbria.
