Money paid into wrong account

A friend of mine put some owed money into my account (as she thought) but the last digit was wrong! This was three weeks ago but I didn't chase her, as she is going through the mill at the moment. Today I messaged her - that was when she checked and realised that it had gone to the wrong account! She paid me immediately but, as she is a student and a mother, she cannot really afford to lose that. Is she entitled to ask for it back? I can always write a letter explaining, if necessary. Advice welcome.

Ir depends whether the account number/sort code combo that she used were valid or not. If not, the money should bounce back into her account. If they are valid then someone else has the money, she needs to speak to her bank.

If it's only the last digit that was wrong then I'd be 99% certain that it wasn't a valid account number.0

She says that it's only the last digit but she hasn't had it bounced back. I've told her to speak to someone in her bank.
Oh, I made a mistake about the timing! It's only TWO weeks, not three!0 -

If you put the sort code and account number in here, it will tell you if it is a valid account and give basic information such as the branch location.

As others have said, she needs to contact her own bank.0 -
That's interesting, badger09. I've just done that, thank you, and it says that it's not a valid account! So my friend should have got the money back in her own account but it appears to have gone into the ether! I'll give her that link but I believe she is now going to her bank.
Thank you all very much.0
