The NHS doesn't want its property returned.

I work in a care home and whenever our residents are returned from a stay in hospital they arrive with NHS sheets, blankets, pyjamas or gowns, which we wash, press and bag them up. However the hospitals have said they do not want them back. This seems absurd considering their financial situation. Therefore we have piles of linen that cannot be returned. Does anyone have any idea why this is their policy?

You can take it to a clothes collecting charity shop I guess, just because you don't agree with the policy, doesn't make it wrong, and if you have some great ideas how to improve the financial situation, then perhaps you should change career, as I'm certain that it pays more than carer rates.0

Proably to do with 'elf & safety........
Shocking really.
Donate them to local homeless charities etc or give them away on Freegle
or sell them on Gumtree / Preloved for a bit of cash for your care home residents treats ??

Not harsh just straight to the point, had a bad week, but that has little colouration on the response :beer:0 -

Why would you say change career , the OP was only asking what I perceive to be a very good question.0 -

I guess there is no thing as a bad question, the logistics of returning it hasn't been thought through (IMO)
to clean and press the used items must increase the carbon footprint, along with the transportation to return the items, then there is the managment of the returned items and re-stocking.
So yes I agree with the good intent of the opening post, but then to go on as if that is what will save the NHS, does deserve reward.0 -
Wow DUTR I was only asking a question,
firefox1956. I just presumed that if our laundry isn't hygienic enough the hospitals would 're wash them. I'm sure they don't throw them away after every patient .. We have been givIing some away but it does seem such a waste of NHS funds0 -
