Removing silicone sealant

I've used Forever White which seems to live up to its name as well as being free flowing. Requires an applicator gun which is cheaper than the sealant. Got it from either Toolstation or Screwfix.

How about using an old store card or lollypop stick?

When you come to reseal it, invest a couple of quid in a sealant tool - they make it an absolute doddle to get a nice finish, miles better than using your finger:
