Hi saviours,
Please please help or advise, im going insane. Let me start by telling you my problem. I am moving house in just under 2 weeks to a place not that remote but in and a farm which is only 4 miles from swansea. The post code sa27jp. For people who may need that. I have been trying and trying and trying to get broadband, through talk talk, bt, and now uk online. After several hours on the phone to all of them and now the current provider uk online, im still not and still have not gone live. Im running a business from the property selling classic and sports cars so the internet is a must for me. I have had engineers, dacs removed, test sockets checked and still no broadband, but yet they still say they can provide me with it. Is this is true? Has any one experience using satalite broadband? if so what providers should I use? is it worth the money? is it a reasonable sustitute and is this my only option.
Thanks all you guys for reading, and help would be so much appreciated.
Kind Regards

Have a look at http://www.ispreview.co.uk/list.shtml it gives a list of Satellite and Wireless ISP0

Sat is expensive and a last resort IMHO. It also has high latency, so it's not ideal for surfing, and useless for games.
Tell us some more about the timeline of when you applied for ADSL at the new address, and what has happened since.
Which ISP have you actually asked for the service from at the moment (ukonline?), and what was the last thing BT told them?
when they checked the test socket did they get sync or not?0 -
Hi,
BT didnt really give us much a response and just said that they were struggling to provide us with it, they removed our dacs and said that should sort it, but no such luck. I am currently with uk online who's tecjical department I must say have been brilliant, we have done the tone (tong) test (sorry dont know the name) several times (3) and all i've heard the beeps. They are saying that bt are now moving me to a different location with in the exchange but in the same room? but since they said this was going to be done my phone line id down and I dont even have this either. So thats the latest with uk online. There is farm just 100 yrds from where I live and they have bb and a speed of 1.5mg there is also another farm 200 yrds the other way who a phone line fed by an other exchange? could this help.
Pardon my technical talk not really up on this its just what im being told.
I only need the internet to uplaod pictures and set up adverts on certain sites and to minitor and update my own.
Hope this puts a little more light on the subject.
Thanks again. j0 -
How about signing up for BT Broadband - you may find that they can magically resolve the problem ?
I have had satellite broadband and don't bother - it is expensive and a VERY poor substitute.
What about using 3G from T-Mobile or 3 - how good of a mobile signal will you be able to get ?

OK. so it looks like "its being worked on". You need to ring UK online and COMPLAIN. the do it some more. Make sure you know you have no phone line.
Then you ring BT and complain too. You can't complain to them directly about the broadband, but you can complain that you have no regular phone working now.0 -

BT Broadband would have to report any fault to BT Openreach just like any other ISP, so BT Broadband is not the answer! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I've complained so many times, but i guess i've just got to keep on trying yes? Do appreciate all you advice, I have a 3 mobile and don't have any reception there, I can get it about 40 yrds away in one our feild and in our garden just not the house or very very occasionally.
So is sat bb that bad? Its certainly expensive, but just at a loss with what to do.0 -
If you get the genuine two-way satellite BB system it will be hellishly expensive - example here.
The problem I see is the weather, though. Sky can disappear if it rains or snows, so I guess your BB would too.
If you take away the cost and weather problems, there is nothing at all wrong with satellite as an option (as long as it is really two-way and not the kind which uses the phone line for the uplink side).
Maybe wi-fi is the answer if there are others who could muck in? That site also explains that option.0 -

Your point in theory is absolutely correct but some ISPs are "more equal" than others apparently...
We use Sky for our broadband and I have a T-Mobile 3G card as a backup if the ADSL goes down. If your link is critical to you, this may be the way to go - there are even routers available now that allow you to use 3G as a backup:

Obviously not as UK Online seem to be getting further than BT did:poolianjoole wrote:BT didnt really give us much a response and just said that they were struggling to provide us with it
Only the ISP can really lodge a broadband fault with BT Openreach and it is obviously in the providers interest to sort out this problem and get their money from the customer. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
