I found an item I claimed for

I found my watch that I lost and claimed for back in 2011. I want to do the right thing and contact the insurance company to let them know and repay any monies claimed. But, I’m worried they’ll take the item from me (it’s from my dad so don’t want to lose it) or be charged a fortune above what they gave me for it. Any advice please on how I should handle this would be appreciated. Thank you

They should only ask for the value they paid you, back.0

the item belongs to the insurer, they have paid you for it. I am sure that they would be more than happy for you to pay them back what they paid you (net ammount after any excess) and let you keep the item but you should inform them that the item has been recovered.0

Contact them, and offer to pay them back the settlement figure which was given to you.
Note that you likely won't get back the differences in the premium price you've paid over that 5 years, as you had still reported a loss to them and would therefore be deemed riskier to insure / make a claim in the future.0
