The display of my Windows phone is faulty. I do not remember dropping it and it is not physically damaged. I discovered the fault when I was at the gym.

I use to have Mobile Phone insurance with o2, however I cancelled it last year when my contract expired. I believe I have mobile phone cover as part of my home insurance. I am with More Than. I am going to call them tomorrow. I have a few questions:

1) What impact will making a claim like this have on my premiums in future? I guess I could get some quotes.

2) Do all insurance policies cover mobile phones (if you have accidental damage)?

3) Are you covered inside the house or outside the house?

I think the phone is worth about £200 new if that has any bearing.

Increased premiums from making a claim are likely to far exceed the value of the phone over several years.

What model of windows phone is it. It may be worth asking a local repair service to look at it to see if it can be repaired.

What is the excess fee for any AD claim, presuming you have AD cover under your contents? I doubt it's under £100.

If the handset is still available (i.e., you can get parts), it may be repairable. The repair would be around £100, which is the value of the excess.

Alternatively if it's beyond repair due to no parts being available, £200 for a replacement is an increase of £40 p/a in premiums over 5 years. Which isn't much. Then you've got the excess as well? Not worth it IMHO - repair the handset privately.

The excess is only £50. The local repairer has said it will cost £90 to replace the screen, however there is no guarantee this will fix it i.e. it could be a fault with a motherboard chip.
