    The advantage with this strategy if it gives your current employer the opportunity to offer you a package to stay before your formally hand in your notice in.

    And the disadvantage of this strategy is that if the new job falls through your current employer may see you as someone who has no long term future with the company. You may be passed over for promotion or training opportunities.

    Keep stum. You have a contract. People leave, they get replaced. All part of the business of employing people.
