Plz help hotel refund chances?

Depending on the type of train ticket, it may be refundable/changeable (for a fee) or not. I think the best you can do is help find someone to take your place, even at a discount you'll get a bit of money back.

Technically, you are not entitled, however I do this for a living - it happens every day. I have even received refunds myself from other chains on the rare occasion i book saver.

I think it would need to be the friend who actually booked them would be the one to talk to the hotel.They probably wouldn't even talk to OP as they didn't make the booking.

I'd get your friend to contact the hotel and explain what's happened. If the hotel sees that there is, for example, six rooms booked and one needs to be cancelled then they're more likely to be accommodating than if someone is just cancelling everything. If nothing else a hotel might not, depending on the individual hotel, want to risk having a group of people disappointed with them before they've even arrived.
