Multiple searches on credit file

Im really annoyed at Halifax and MBNA, after checking my experian credit file.
I applied for a halifax joint account with my other half and, because it was refused the first time, they did a second application but switched the main account holder. As a result I now have 2 searches showing for halifax.
I applied for an MBNA credit card once, and low and behold it shows two separate searches on experian.
Will this make a difference to other lenders looking at the account? Can I get it removed? Why are lenders allowed to so casually search? (we didnt even ask halifax to try the second application)
