Since AOL has discontinued its desktop I am having trouble with attachments.
If I want to attach an excel thing to an email it send me to AOL as a default and I have to get around it which is annoying, how can I make Excel take me to my firefox broswer where I collect my email from?

Set your programme defaults. I use Windows 7 so it is Start, Default Programs, Set your default programs and follow your nose to set your e-mail client that you want to be the default.0

Thank you, I tried that (I use windows 10) it said AOL when I went into it so I changed it to Mail (recommended for windows 10) but when I tried it it still defaults to AOL. I also tried Chrome just to see if it made a difference but it was the same.0

No issues sending attachments with my AOL accounts using Thunderbird.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Debitcardmayhem, it says this ......Note* This guide will only work if you have already installed the email client you want to make the default (ie. Thunderbird, Eudora). If you have not already done this you will likely only have one choice which is the default Windows 10 mail client.
I use firefox as my browser but I guess this is different, I am a bit worried to try stuff in case I lose all my mail I tried using the windows 10 choice but it made no difference.0 -

I think you have got your wires crossed here. (and some people offering advice)
There is no way to make windows send an attachment to web based email, you have to have a client installed on the computer.
What you need to do is tell the W10 mail app your AOL email details, then use that as the default.
OR
Log into your webmail, create the email and then click the attach button to attach your excel file0 -
Thank you AndyPix, I will try that.0

Hi
Apologies for butting in on this thread, but I'm having AOL difficulties too.
Please can I ask what you mean by AOL having "discontinued it's desktop"?
The trouble's I've been having is not being able to open attachments sent to my AOL email by third parties, whereas if I forward the email to another email account I can open them (e.g. Gmail etc).
I'm not fond of AOL but have given that AOL email address to so many people it will be a headache to change address.
Is it worth going through the headache? if so, can people please recommend the best alternative, stable, reliable email to use - to access both on desktop and on mobile devices?
What is Thunderbird and would it help me with my AOL difficulties to download this?
Many thx - clueless!0 -
^^ !!!!!! ..
Why on earth have you posted that in the middle of somebody elses totally unrelated thread :huh:0 -
Clearly by mistake. Don't think your "!!!!!!" remark is helpful or necessary. Each to their own though...0
