LGV Licence renewal without CPC

Hi all,

A friend has a LGV licence which hasn't been used for a few years, so they haven't got CPC. The licence is up for renewal soon, can they renew it without the CPC or do they need to get the CPC to keep the licence?

Thanks in advance :)

You can renew the licence without the DCPC which is only needed if you drive as part of your job.

Or let the entitlement lapse, you still keep the "pass" just wont appear on your license, ofc only really useful if your over 45 and having to have a medical to renew.

Personally I'd keep the DCPC on the go. HGV driving is the one thing where if you need a bit of extra cash in a hurry you can register with an agency on one week and be sat in a truck the following week. I know of one guy who went off to do other things and does the odd Friday night to get an extra £100-£120 every now and again when he needs it.

Yes, he hasn't got the DCPC yet, he was wondering whether he needed to have it to renew his licence. He will get it but isn't driving at the moment, so doesn't want to spend the money right now unless he has to.
