Magazines Direct online subscriptions

I bought my wife a subscription to Woman and Home magazine for Christmas on 13th December from the W & H website. This was after doing some price checks where I discovered a confusing range of different prices and timeframes. After checking with W & H via email re the price range they gave me a number to call which turned out to be the subscription provider i.e. Magazines Direct .

Anyway, I went for the one that included a free £60 goody bag (obviously!) - or so it said! I received the confirmation email re the order immediately. However, there was no mention of the free gift in the email. Therefore, I called up, mentioned the lack of confirmation of the gift and asked when that would be received just in case it was possible to get it for Christmas Day so I would be prepared. I was told to wait for the order information email which arrived about 3 days later.

Anyway, this one also did not mention the gift so I called on the 16th to check when it would be received, having re-checked the website to ensure it was still there - it was. The person I spoke to said gifts would usually arrive within 28 days.

As you'll have guessed, nothing has arrived yet and after an email query to the providers, I was told no gift was attached to this subscription i.e. "Having investigated this further, we regret to inform you that the subscription offer you took advantage of was not offered with a gift". This is totally not true and they seem to be saying I'm stupid and have mis-read it. But that wouldn't happen more than once I'm sure and without the gift offer, I would probably have gone for one of the alternative options at a cheaper price.

Has anyone else hit something like this and could anyone advise as to what to do next. I now wish I'd taken a screen shot and I certainly will in future for this sort of thing.

    I would give them zero stars if I could. They stopped sending my monthly magazine over two years ago but have continued to take payment. They owe me in excess of £110.00. I contacted them via email and they have responded advising they accept their error as their records show they have failed to post my magazine since 2018. We’ve exchanged numerous emails, they still haven’t refunded me. I complained on their Facebook page and again had to wait for them to “ investigate “ my case. Again they’ve messaged me to advise I will be getting a refund. The following message was sent to me via messenger over 2 weeks ago

    Hi Katy, i can confirm we have now refunded all payments from the 29th of January 2018 right up until the most recent payment, please allow up to 14 working days to receive these. Thanks

    They’re liars, they still haven’t refunded me. Steer clear of these con artists, they’ll take your money but not supply the goods!!

    I've had no problems with them at all - I have 2 subscriptions with them, both mags came with free gifts which arrived, both have been consistently delivered before they are available in store & payment is by direct debit which I can cancel if I wish to stop them.
