Good afternoon,
I currently have the Samsung portable DVD writer SE-208 for my mid-2015 iMac 27" and it works aOK using macOS High Sierra.
Paid about £25 a couple of years ago on Amazon, don't know if it's still available (without looking). It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Don't know of any drive which doesn't work. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I have the exact same Samsung as 20aday on a 2014 iMac running latest OS.0

You could go for the slim aluminium-bodied Apple drive for around £65 to match your iMac which fits unobtrusively on the computer stand base and retains the Apple elegant appearance. On the other hand, as others have pointed out, you could get a much cheaper one.0

I use mine once ina blue moon so although it’s white and matches the iMac it doesn’t really matter as most of the time it’s in its box.0

Thanks folks
I’m slightly torn now . I have a gift voucher from Apple when I purchased my iMac on Black Friday .
I could get that , or I could look at the Samsung .
I looked at some of the reviews of the Apple one , and they’re not great.0 -
Why torn then? Spend the voucher on something else where its better value for money than 2x the cost of the equivalent and has bad reviews to boot.0

Buy a second hand one, youre only going to use it once.
Doesn't matter which type/kind either.0 -

There's no physical eject button or little hole to poke a paper clip into it if an unreadable cd or dvd gets stuck. It will keep trying to read it for ever. The only way to get it out is to shut down the computer or grab the disk quickly during a reboot before it gets sucked back in.0
