Extractor hood leaving stains/marks on wall

Though I keep the extractor hood mesh plates fairly clean, I always still seem to get a build up of what can only be grease stains along both side of the actual 'chimney' part above. Any ideas as to why? Or what I can do to prevent?

Because not all the grease is drawn into the extractor by the fan.No free lunch, and no free laptop
