Barn conversion!Planning question!

Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone can help me.
Me and my partner are interested in buying a part converted barn. It has planning consent for holiday use accommodation. But does this mean that we would need to get seperate planning consent to use it as a permanent residence.
Thanks
Lauren

Yes it does. But if it were possible when the original application went in, the owner would have got that in the first instance I'd have thought.
Also, check out the holiday use. Tends to be two sorts:
1] Can only stay in it X months of the year (typically 10 months)
2] Has to be let out to a variety of different people, so you can't live in it 10 months and move out for 2.
It would also have an impact on its mortgageability, so worth checking that too.0 -
It will have PP for a holiday let because they can't get residential. Probably because it is in the greenbelt and they are choosing to use it to help the growth of the local economy rather than leave it empty, or similar. Or they have a moratorium on new-build.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

That's scandalous!!! Surely a hardworking (sic) family is better for the local economy than a succession of people turning up with food & drink bought from their local tesco for three months over the summer.Doozergirl wrote: »It will have PP for a holiday let because they can't get residential. Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

We have recently received planning permission for a barn conversion. Barn is pretty derelict and completely redundant for modern farming - the huge machinery of today simply wouldn't fit through the doors. It took us over a year from start to finish and was painful and pretty expensive - we had to prove that there was no reasonable expectation of commercial/tourist/light industry use (we did this by commisioning a report at a cost of £500 which said that to convert to light industry such as offices or warehousing would cost in the region of £70,000 with a payback period of about 45 years!). We enlisted the help of our local parish council and our local councillor who both spoke on our behalf at planning meetings to say that it was far better for the barns to be restored and loved than for them to remain a blot on the landscape as they gradually slipped further and further into disrepair.
It wasn't easy and it often felt that we were jumping through expensive hoops for the sake of ticking boxes (bat survey, £400; structural engineering survey £800 and on and on and on) but the planning committee finally passed our plans although very reluctantly.
I think the best thing would be to make an appointment to speak to your local planning officer who shoud be able to give you a general "likely", "unlikely" or "not in a month of Sundays" answer before you commit to anything.0 -

Dunno
Value of tourism and stuff? Protection of the greenbelt (Lord knows how) There's a lot of this in Warwickshire around Stratford-Upon-Avon.
I couldn't fit the shopping from my local Tesco in my car with all our stuff!!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I think i have uncovered a little scam going on round my way with old barns etc. The local estate who sold mine 13 years ago got PP for residential use no problem but now its difficult. The council prefer helping the local area has said above. I have now noticed twice they got PP for a barn for office use only, tried to rent it with no luck and now its been quickly became a house! Same with a old water mill which i saw for office rent in the local paper recently, now for sale as 3 flats. Whats going on there?0
