Is this commuting?

My daughter does not have a driving licence and has recently started to work so I am driving her to her work.

I no longer work so the last time I renewed my car insurance I just insured for social and domestic use.

Does driving my daughter to her work count as social and domestic use for me?

Yes, that would come under 'domestic'. You are insured, not her, and you are not commuting.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Wouldn't it depend on whether the insurance question was "Will YOU be commuting?" or "Will the CAR be used for commuting?" ?

Commuting is travelling to and from work. If you don't work you can't be commuting. Also when you commute the car remains at the place of work all day.

Any reason? In my experience neither commuting nor business adds anything to the cost. in fact mine reduced when I added business.

It's like people going third party F&T or third party only. It seldom reduces the cost.

But no you are not commuting. Might be considred iffy if your daugther is on the policy though.

    The OP no longer works!

(Thus asking for commuting and business cover would be a contradiction and could trigger all sorts of anti fraud measures)

I'm not a musician or builder or an antique dealer. But if I help a friend out by carrying his instruments, materials or stock, aren't I using my car in connection with a trade or business?

Over insuring is never an issue.

No, it's not your trade of business.

    Which is normal business coverage.

Though it may be commercial use which needs even more coverage. All depends of why you are doing it. Which may be hard to proove.

You appear to be saying that the insurance risk inherent in a particular motoring situation depends on which of the car's occupants is benefitting.
eg that a car in the M25 rushhour stands a higher risk of accident if the work samples in the back belong to the driver rather than his passenger.
    :)
