What did she say when he told her that?

Her saying nothing and allowing them to do further work next week will not help her case

Sounds like a variation on the pensioner roof work scam.

(Ask to clean the gutters or something minor, then end up charging for replacing the whole roof.)

Has she used this garage before?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Probably because they haven't done anything on it what so ever and tried to take advantage of an OAP.

The correct thing to do is to first give the owner a fail report and then give them the option. A scrap car is worth about £150. Any decent mechanic would tell you the csot of the repair is worth more than the car and usually not expect the owner to repair such car. In fact the MOT guy I used was reluctant to fix the issues and recommended I just scrap it. I insisted on getting the work done to fix it and for it to make economic sense I carried out the work myself.
When is the last time you took a car for scarp? you get about £60 now
We may not win by protesting, but if we don’t protest we will lose.
If we stand up to them, there is always a chance we will win.

£100+ My mate has a business where he buys cars off Facebook and scraps them. £60 is what he'll pay you, £100+ is what he'll get when he weighs it in after taking the battery out which he can get a tenner for, the alloys off which he can weigh in separately and the CAT which can fetch a fair few quid on its own.
