Do credit searches really disappear after 12 months?

I've always been told that, after 12 months, credit searches 'fall off' a credit file. But does this mean that lenders cannot see searches older than 12 months, including for the purposes of a mortgage, or only that I, as the consumer, cannot see it on my file?

Don't one of the CRAs (can't remember which one) keep searches on file for 2 years.

Just checked. Equifax 1 year, Experian 2 years, Call Credit 2 years.

Also don't forget theirs a fourth secret DCA called National Hunter that doesn't say.

The regulator should really standardise this. These leaching companies get away with murder.

    Experian is 1 year.

National Hunter and Synectics Solutions are fraud prevention agencies, not credit reference agencies.
  • Note that hard searches mean little to most lenders after 6 months.
