It's a 2 year warranted stop start battery and was around the £100 mark. I know the symptoms of a failing stop start battery so I'll happily risk a cheapo one rather than double the price for a 3 year warranty. Original battery failed after 4.5 years.

Thanks, I think you've hit the nail on the head. You expect main dealer to be expensive because you expect good service, quality parts and expert mechanics. That's my biggest frustration here. Thanks everyone for responding to this question, it's been really helpful.
