Virgin V6 Box free upgrade- but i only ham V+ boxes

Options
I have two V plus recording boxes and are on a Broadband/TV/phone package which dates back over 5 years. In the past despite general poor customer service Virgin have refused to upgrade my V plus boxes to Tivo box without an additional monthly charge. I am in the process of looking for another provider but I have recently read that Virgin are giving V6 boxes without any additional charge to most customers. Will this apply to us even if we only have the old V plus recording boxes. am holding fire before proceeding to change provider as if they do upgrade, as if they do give us a free upgrade this could change our mind in the short term. Trying to speak to anyone at Virgin media is a lost cause. as there customer service is abysmal . Any feedback or comments will be appreciated. Thank you

Yes, the offer is for all customers. They are upgrading everyone to the new v6 box.
AFAIK you have to request it as it's not an auto upgrade.
Already a thread on this, did you miss it?

I have the V+ box and phoned up to ask a few questions about the Free Upgrade Offer. I am getting an engineer coming on the 3rd Feb to install it free.

They will only give you one V6 box so if you have more then they will not replace the other one free. I am not sure if the V+ box will work after you get the free upgrade to V6? Read it was a slightly different system?

My V+ box went faulty a couple of months ago and I was upgraded to a V6. I explained that I could not afford to pay any more per month (which was the truth) and all was well.
VM had to upgrade my broadband too as it was 'only' 70Mb and a V6 needs more bandwidth as many services are delivered over broadband - again as it was a requirement for the box that VM were sending me, I did not pay any more.

Dont get me wrong, ive not really wangled anything for free from VM as i still pay a decent chunk each month, but I didn't end up paying any more.

PS - both the V6 box and superhub 3 were sent to me as self install and it was easy but you have to be patient for all services to register and for any mobile apps to work properly.
  • They are upgrading everyone to the new v6 box.
And will probably take that as the opportunity to lock you in for another 12 months - so would double check that point as the OP is considering moving provider
  • We are on a Mates Rate package, so on these grounds Virgin Media are refusing to upgrade our V Plus box to a V6 box without paying an additional monthly premium. We also have two V plus boxes so not sure if you have 2 different types of boxes working together.. We have been customers with Virgin Media since 2008 so if that is how they treat loyal customers is it time to look elsewhere as some providers are offering attractive packages to new customers

There will be no impact on your contract. Upgrading your box won't enter you into a new contract, or extend your current one.

This is no doubt being done to get rid of the V+ boxes to stop card sharing
    Have a nice day :)
  • If you Log Into your My Virgin account it clearly states only one V Plus box will be replaced free. I don't know how or when Virgin will contact you, they have not been on touch with us yet.
