Car Buying help PCP or Lease

Hello,
This is my very first Post, so please bear with me and I will do my best to go through as much as I can. I am looking to getting a NEW car to run it for 3 years and change to another new.
The reason for this is that we have had just bad lucks with second hand cars and my Wife and I wanted to try for new and see how this would work out, also for some comfort in life as I travel a lot for short and long journeys. So, I need to get a family size car for taking trips up and down the motorway as my son is in a Uni....
I don’t have the cash to buy outright, was thinking ether PCP or Lease for 3 years.
Been to see several dealers and the feeling I get is that they try things on, so you are never sure if the deal your getting is a fair one or not. I've looked at Qashqai, Honda CR-V, Sportage, Skoda Karoq, Then I went is to Audi by off chance and they have a good offer (assuming) for the A6. I got a price for the A6 avent and A4 avent. I now know that the Audi will be bring out a new Model of the A6 at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. I don’t know how this will affect on the re-sale value.
I would be putting down £2000 as a deposit, 15,000 miles per year and taking it over 3 years
Below is an offer I have been offered on A6 avent, new. (basic Model, no extras) should be with them around March. 36 months, Retail cash Price £29853.00 Optional final payable £13135.65, total amount of credit £21703.00 3.9 Apr. Monthly payment 301.45. Total Deposit 8150.00. Also, from a different dealer I have been offered A4, avent 320 per month over 4 years. I know this is a lot more over the A6 and that’s the problem. Am I been given the wrong price?
What I wanted to know is how would I work out if I am getting a good deal on PCP?
Is It better to go on a PCP deal or Lease deal?
What’s the best way of getting a good deal from the dealers?
Is it better to lease from a dealer or a leasing company?

If you are flexible on which car, then look out for cheap lease deals, probably work out cheaper over 3 years than a PCP from a dealer. A6 can be had for under £300/month with only £2k upfront on a personal 3 year lease. That's the first site I looked at, so bound to be better deals to be had.

The monthly payment on the A6 is low because you would be paying £8k deposit.

If you go to the What car website you can compare lease and PCP deals.

you would be paying £19,000 over 3 years and not own the car unless you pay the final payment. just saying........

Why do you feel the need to change the car in 3 years? It'll still be in warranty at that point. This 3 year thing is a hangover from the 60's and 70's when new cars were far less reliable, and came with a one year warranty.
A PCP is just a cunning trap devised to keep you coming back every 3 years for a shiny new model.

I'd personally lease. Cars lose value so quickly plus optionally throw in maintenance and get the servicing/tyres sorted - no big bills other than your monthly rental. After three years you'll be bored with it and want another anyway so with a lease you don't have to sell - hand it back and choose another!

I don't mind on which car it is as long as it is reliable, economical, comfort and has enough space for the family. All the cars I have test driven have been very good other than`kia sportage.

I am putting 2k down and Audi contribution is 6150.
Why do you feel the need to change the car in 3 years? /QUOTE]
When ever I have bought a secondhand cars I have always ran them till I had to scrap them but thought it would just nice to keep up the technology and try different cars.

As for leasing, does anyone know a reputable leasing company or dealers?
On leasing, when you give the car back I know they check the cars carefully for ware and tear but what do they mean ware and tear, how far do they go in trying to get more money out of you?
Is there anything to look out for when leasing?

once you get past the crazy 'is this a scam website?' https://www.lingscars.com is good site and I've had several cars from her - excellent service.

They mean fair wear and tear, all lease companies adhere to an industry standard on this - nothing to worry about.

If that, are you not tempted to wait a year or two and get something really good like a Tesla 3 with autopilot.

If you compare a well spec-ed 10 year old car and a modern one, even an A6 there's not much difference.
  • Thank you for the info
I see what you mean by "is this a scam website".

    Ha Ha....
    Your right.
Just thinking out load, should I take the PCP deal and at the end of 3 years, think about paying off the final cost if I like the car?

Well PCP is probably the most expensive way to try out new technology. Also you'll find the prices being quoted are for a hell of a lot less than 15,000 miles a year allowance, try 9,000 miles or even 6,000 miles in some cases.

A bank loan for the whole amount is cheaper than taking out a PCP and paying the balloon payment. The true cost a month of your PCP deal isn't the monthly payment, it is the monthly payment plus your deposit divided over the number of months of the deal so a £3600 deposit on a 36 month PCP deal makes the true cost per month of the deal £100 more than the monthly payment.

Buying a 2 year old car is more sensible as it'll have had the largest amount of depreciation financed by someone else, will have manufacturers warranty and will be pretty much like new.
