Hi, having listened to Martin the other day I’m confused ....
he said to book insurance when you book your holiday in case anyth8ng happens to prevent you travelling but if you are going for a week to have to put dates of travel so does that mean you insurance is only valid between those dates ?
I have booked to go away in October but I am due to be having an operation but have no date as yet, if my op date come through soon then no prob BUT if it isn’t for months I may not be fit to fly ... so if I book single trip insurance would I be able to claim ?
Sorry very confused here lol :rotfl:

You have to declare existing conditions - waiting for an op is one of these. For the insurer this is a large risk which will cost a lot if they agree to insure at all. The premium will also probably still be higher than normal after the operation as they specifically ask for details of recent hospital visits.
October is some distance ahead and I think I would be inclined to see if it is possible to cancel or postpone your trip and maybe write off things like airfares which would be impossible to cancel. After your op if you are feeling well and the issue is resolved you could ask for some quotations and book something at the last minute.0 -
With single trip insurance, you tell them the dates of the holiday, it can be any time in advance. They will insure you for that specific holiday, but you are also covered for the time between buying the policy and the holiday. So should something happen before you go you're covered.
However, you have an existing condition you need to declare, you probably won't be covered for anything else, even if not related if you don't tell them when you take out the policy. You need to get quotes and see if insurance will cover you for your possible operation, or it causing you to cancel.0 -
Single trip insurance is very poor value, unless you are sure that you will only need one week of cover for the next year.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I disagree: I can only suggest that you look at your proposed journeys and the cover you need, and check the figures with both options. That is what I do, and often find that single-trip cover offers better value.0 -

I think the point Martin was making is that you should take out a travel policy without delay after reserving a holiday for the reasons you've given ?0 -
Exactly, take out insurance the moment you have your holiday booked and you have peace of mind. Some people wrongly think they should wait until just before their holiday. But the cover is in place from the moment you take out the insurance policy, so do it ASAP.0
