  • Thanks for that advise, im not going to reply to them after reading all of the horror stories on the internet about this company, im surprised they are allowed to trade!
One thing that puzzles me..why do they send an SMS message? surely it would be easier for them to phone especially if they wanted to catch you off guard, seems a bit strange to me it allows us to look into the firm first!

But if you're going to contact a dozen or so people who have names similar to the debtor and you don't particularly care who responds...
  • Ah i see thanks again for that....may be a daft question but im ex-directory so how did they get my home number?

I have had one of those text messages from them asking me to call them IMMEDIATELY with a reference number M*****.
I do not know of any debts i have, should i call them? The consensus seems to be ignore them but i do not want to end up in court or with a CCJ, what should i do?

Best not ignore them, they will keep sending you letters. If you dispute the claim write to them stating YOU DISPUTE THE CLAIM and ask them to SUBSTANTIATE IT.

They must then provide proof in a reasonable time, that their claim is valid. Don't accept a statement from them, they must substantiate by providing an authentic signed agreement or other similar proof. A statment is not substantial. Putting the claim into DISPUTE means they must cease chasing you for the debt until they are able to substantiate it.
  • Thanks for that Stephen, i have heard nothing since the text message over a month ago now, no letters, calls or anything so perhaps it may be wise to ignore tham unless they write to me or try and contact me.
    Thanks for your help though..

We got one of those stupid text message things from them this morning, I should point out that i live with my mother (outside term time) and she owes nobody anything and neither do I (unless the Student loan company is selling debt agreements to mac hall while still lending me money). After a quick google i found out about mac halls bad reputation and was a little bit worried but after reading this I'm almost tempted to write them a letter, who knows, it might even be fun. Maybe even profitable!

Also we have only been in this house for a year so they may be after the previous occupier, in which case good luck to them! Any effort they make is only a waste of their companies money on man power and stationary since he is and has been for over a year, a little bit dead.

not to put a dampener on things but yes, SLC have sold debt aggreeements to Mackenzie Hall, specifically pre-1995 ones. I only post this cos I'm having fun and games with them just now, but will happily start ignoring them:D

obviously if your still in study, they cant be asking you to pay back a loan that they're still paying out.
